Greenwich Millennium Village was one of the Government’s flagship millennium communities. In 1997, Greenwich Millennium Village Limited—now a joint venture between Countryside Partnership (Vistry) and Taylor Wimpey—won the competition with a masterplan by pioneering architect Ralph Erskine, later updated by Jestico + Whiles.
The first apartment blocks in Phase 4 have reached practical completion. The Royal Borough of Greenwich’s Planning Board has also resolved to grant consent for the final phase, which will deliver 258 homes, with at least 35 per cent affordable.
Designed by Jestico + Whiles, these homes will complete the 25.8 hectare development, bringing the total to over 2,000 homes and commercial spaces on the Greenwich Peninsula. Set around interconnected garden squares and active streets, the scheme features sustainable design elements, including green roofs, podium gardens, and private balconies, some with views of the Thames.
Greenwich Millennium Village has won numerous design awards since its inception, being recognised for its sustainable architecture (by the RIBA) and urban planning and community design (including having won Best Development from Inside Housing Development Awards 2023).
